Handicap Certificates
“Some Scottish courses, especially high-profile ones like Muirfield and Carnoustie, may ask for a valid handicap certificate. This ensures all players meet the expected standard and pace of play during busy visitor times.
While not always enforced, it’s a good idea to carry proof from your home club or digital system. Most courses accept printed confirmation or apps showing your current index. Being prepared avoids any issues when checking in at the clubhouse.”
Caddies
Hiring a caddie adds incredible value to your round. They offer insight into course strategy, help with club selection, and know how to navigate the course in all weather conditions. Many have decades of experience.
Book caddies in advance, especially at top-tier courses. Typical fees range from £55–£75 plus tip. Beyond carrying your bag, caddies share stories, traditions, and make your game more enjoyable. They’re part of the true Scottish golf experience.
Dining & culture / Non-Golf Activities
Scotland offers much more than just golf. Between rounds, explore castles, ancient ruins, or take a scenic drive through the Highlands. Loch Ness, Isle of Skye, and Edinburgh are all within reach depending on your base.
Building in a few non-golf days adds balance to your trip. Visit a whisky distillery, hike along coastal cliffs, or take a historical walking tour. These moments round out the trip and give you more to remember beyond the fairways.
